In Print: Neutrons/Protons #2
Neutrons/Protons is an "idiosyncratic literary project" that publishes themed issues online. They just released their second print issue, and I'm proud to be included in it.
I submitted an excerpt from a longer piece about what it's like to evacuate New Orleans for a hurricane for their Vacation-themed issue back in the summer, and it was chosen as one of the best pieces of the past six months. "Hurrication" is based on my experiences with Katrina in 2005 and Ike in 2008. I tried to take a collective point of view and mash many different moments together: frustration, exhaustion, fear, and the surreal feeling of being part of a crowded, temporary demographic.
If you can't get your hands on one of the limited editions of the print issue (email the editor, Sophie Johnson at firstname.lastname@example.org to order), you can read it here. If you like it, let me know! It might encourage me to clean up the larger piece and release it into the world.
